friends

I remember it like it was yesterday. How Katrina and I became friends. Katrina is now my best friend, but it wasn’t always like that. It was kindergarten when Katrina and I first met. We hated each other as much as kindergarteners can. Katrina hung out with a boy named Brady. (Brady and I hated each other too) Now that I look back at it I laugh because we showed our un-appreciation by not inviting each other to birthday parties, or not letting one another join “clubs” we made.
One day, Katrina went to Disneyland and I was just really bored. “I’m so bored!” I thought out loud. “Me too” said Brady. I thought for a moment that Brady was going to ask if I wanted to hang out with him. He didn't. Why do I hate Brady? What did he ever do to me? I realized that he did nothing to cause me to hate him. The only reason that I didn't like him was because he hung out with Katrina. That didn't seem very fair. I had one more question to ask myself. Did I ever do something mean to him? The answer was no. I did kind of mean stuff to Katrina, but never to Brady. “Brady do you maybe want to hang out with each other today?” I asked. “Ummm sure,” he said. We found out that we have a lot in common. That day the impossible happened: Brady and I became friends. It had been a week since we became friends. It was Friday. We were outside for recess. I realized something. Brady did too. Katrina went to Disneyland for one week. She will be back on Monday. “So Katrina’s coming back on Monday,” I said. “I know,” replied Brady. “Do you want to be friends with her? Because if you do then we can all hang out together.” “Well I want to try being friends with her, but I don't think she does,” I said. “We’ll see,” was all Brady said.
It was Monday. I could see Brady and Katrina talking, but I could not hear them. I walked closer until I could hear them clearly. Karina: “But I don't want to!” Brady: “Just give her a chance she’s really nice once you get to know her.” Katrina: “No I am sorry but-“Brady interrupted her and yelled “You two have to become friends or else I wont be your friend anymore!” “FINE!” Katrina screamed.
I walked up right beside Katrina. “Hi”, I said. “So are all three of us going to hang out?” “Yea” replied Brady. So Katrina and I hung out, and the impossible happened again. We found out that we have a lot in common and we became friends.
It started out as a forced friendship, but now, in 2010, Katrina and I are true best friends.
The end

  1. There are some really great moments here Nikolette. You sometimes say things in a way that is unexpected and humorous. I really like, for example, where you write that you, "hated each other as much as kindergarteners can". Just how much hate can be mustered up by a child of 5? I shudder to think! Keep developing your own voice! you have a unique way of presenting things, and your pieces are fun to read!
