The Excitement of Disneyland
By: Paola Morales
Before the spring break of 2009, my dad told me we were going on a trip to Disneyland. I was so exited, but a little sad because my mom had to stay home with my then-newborn brother. The moment he told me was a week before we left. It was like a tornado in the room. My bag was full in less than 30 seconds. I was like lightning. I was so exited, I forgot the trip was in a week. The days passed, I was in school, not paying attention too much, looking at the clock, waiting, wanting for the next day to come, but the hands of the clock, against me, ticking slower every second.
Finally, the day came, (and spring break had, too) and I woke up so early, I barely slept, due to excitement. I saw the sunshine, and got on my feet. Too bad because of my excitement, I woke up too early, and the hours were slower than ever! I asked where we would be staying, my dad said we would be staying with his friend Ricardo and his family. I asked if he had any kids, my dad said he had a girl and two boys. I asked for their age, he said the girl was 5, and the twins were 3. She was 5, I was 10. I sighed, loudly, since I do NOT like little girls. They always MAKE me play with them. Too bad I could do nothing about it. (Unless, I gave up going to Disneyland for a 5-year-old who was going to be in daycare the whole day.)
The flight took so long, and even longer because I was eager and exited to get there. It was eternity! Anyway, so Ricardo got to the airport 10 minutes after we arrived. During that time, my dad was struggling with a public phone to call my mom. After, I found out we were there because my dad was buying my mom an SUV. We finally got to Ricardo’s house. The day after that was ‘Disney-land day!’ My dad and I stayed in their guest room. So the night came, I didn’t really dream of anything. Mostly too exited to even sleep! I woke up so early, (again,) I was mostly the only one awake. I tried to wake my dad, he didn’t bother. So I decided to take a shower while everybody woke up. My shower took so little, I’m not even sure I showered right. I was too exited. By the time I got out, almost everybody was awake. Now all I needed to do was eat breakfast. I asked for the fastest breakfast I could eat. My dad said it would be better if I ate a big breakfast for the big day ahead. I could barely wait to get out of that house. We went out the door. (Finally!) We got on the car, I could see the big Disneyland castle ahead. Parking took such a long time. Finally, we got to the tram, that took us to the entrance. Then we waited for eternity, to buy the tickets. We finally got there, and I knew, I was in
Wonderland.

  3. I love how you write this story about DisneyLand without even talking about the park at all! You build the exitement nicely, and focus your writing on the "so what?", which was anticipation and excitement! There are several places in your story where I can literally feel your nervous energy! In future posts focus on "show don't tell" and explore other ways of communicating ideas to your readers.

    So... How was DisneyLand?

Mr.t already asked you how was it.GOOD JOB! :-)
