"WHAT! I HAVE TO GIVE KOKO AWAY!" I yelled in shock. Suddenly, I felt deep sadness in myself. "Yes princess, we have to give Koko away," said my Mom. Just in case you're wondering who Koko is, she is my cat. But I'm allergic to her, and I get lots of nosebleeds. "But who will I give Koko to?" I questioned. "You will give her to your grandma who lives on the island," answered Mom. "So will still get to see Koko?" I questioned. "Yes," responded Mom. "Aww I don't want to give Koko away," I sobbed. "It's O.K.," said Mom. So I roamed off to sadly say "Bye" to Koko. So we packed up her cat carrier and then went to Vancouver Island. Along the way up, Koko mostly slept nicely and quietly. Then we got to my grandma's house. I took Koko into the house to let her out. Then she ran back into the carrier because she was so scared. I left and said, "Bye" and hugged her with despair and sadness. Although I still get to see her, it still makes me sad to say "bye".
The End.

What a powerful experience this must have been Lauren. I can relate. When I was ten I was forced to part with Nina, my first dog. She was a great dog, but for one reason or another was aggressive around little children, and there were many in our neighbourhood. We found an older couple who had a property with lots of land. The day we drove Nina to her new house is still one of my saddest memories.
ReplyDeleteAbout your memoir: It would be interesting to hear what you were thinking and feeling as you made your way over to the island. Sometimes its the moments building up to an event that are the most difficult.
Thanks for sharing!
