"You have to play for 2 hours of you want to do the exam!" my piano teacher shoutedat me. "but I don't want to."I muttered. I was at Metrotown sitting in a small apartment room playing piano. "I don't want to." I said again. "YOU HAVE TO!" my teacher yelled. "Even your mom agrees."After piano class, I asked my mom,"Do I have to take the exam?". "Well you don't have to, but it would be best.". I thought if I took the exam and passed, I might be able to quit and never play piano again. Finally I said,"Fine."
At home my mom made me play piano again. I wished I had said I quit. For 2 months I suffered from people telling me to practice or yelling at me that I have to do the exam.
Finally January came. Although everyone was happy and excited, I was the most negitave person on earth. I was so nervous. My teeth were chattered even though it was 30'c outside. Plus my piano teacher was more crazy. "4HOURS OF PLAYING, DO YOU HERE ME? I SAID 4 HOURS!" she had screamed at me.
When the exam came , it was on the same day as my talent show audition. I was more scared and nervous than a mouse who was going to be caught by a cat.
At Shadbolt Center, I sat patiently with my mom. I asked her if I can play my DS so I can relax a bit, but she said,"No.". Then it was my turn.
When I went in, my hands were dripping with sweat. I sat down on the creeky black bench. Suddenly my mind went blanck. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath and played my first song.
The final part of the exam was the hardest because it was sight reading. The exam teacher picks 2 lines of music that I had never played before and wants me to play it by sight. I made 3 mistakes I thought then that I'll never pass now.
When I saw my marks, I got a total of 80%. I was so relieved. I almost skipped back home, and because I passed my mom bought me a strawberry ice cream cone. Then we happily went home.

Nice memoir Angela.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like such a stressful experience! I remember my own piano exams so many years ago. Good for you for toughing it out and finishing!
ReplyDeleteAbout your memoir: Good use of voice and thoughts. I'm confused about the talent show part. Can you explain that part?
Well Mr.T, I had play another piano song.If I made about 3 mistakes, then I won't be in the talent show! My mom would ground me for a week if I don't get in the talent show.
